Perplexity

既可指内心的茫然(a look of perplexity 困惑的表情),也可指令人费解的局面本身(the perplexity of the case 案件的复杂性)。

  1. “She stared at the puzzle in complete perplexity.”
  2. “The perplexity of the tax rules confuses many taxpayers.”
  3. “His perplexity grew as the witness gave conflicting accounts.”

来自拉丁语 perplexitas,由 perplexus(纠缠的、困惑的)演变而来。

  • 固定搭配: “in perplexity” (困惑中), “a look of perplexity” (困惑的表情), “the perplexity of the situation” (局势的费解之处)

“Standing before three identical doors, the traveler felt a deep perplexity about which path would lead him home.”
