Perplexity
既可指内心的茫然(a look of perplexity 困惑的表情),也可指令人费解的局面本身(the perplexity of the case 案件的复杂性)。
- “She stared at the puzzle in complete perplexity.”
- “The perplexity of the tax rules confuses many taxpayers.”
- “His perplexity grew as the witness gave conflicting accounts.”
来自拉丁语 perplexitas,由 perplexus(纠缠的、困惑的)演变而来。
- 固定搭配: “in perplexity” (困惑中), “a look of perplexity” (困惑的表情), “the perplexity of the situation” (局势的费解之处)
“Standing before three identical doors, the traveler felt a deep perplexity about which path would lead him home.”
