Paucity

常用于学术、新闻与书面语,如 a paucity of evidence(证据匮乏)、a paucity of resources(资源奇缺),语气比 lack 更庄重。

  1. “There is a paucity of research on this rare disease.”
  2. “The report noted a paucity of qualified teachers in rural schools.”
  3. “Despite the paucity of funds, the project moved forward.”

  • 后缀:-ity(名词后缀,表示性质或状态)

  • 固定搭配: “a paucity of evidence” (证据不足), “a paucity of options” (选择寥寥), “paucity of resources” (资源匮乏)
  • 形容词: pauciloquent(少用言辞的,罕用)

“The historian faced a paucity of primary sources, so she relied on letters and local archives to reconstruct the event.”
