Overstep

“Overstep” 强调”跨过了不该跨的线”,如 overstep one’s authority(越权)、overstep the bounds of decency(有失体面)。

  1. “The manager overstepped his authority by firing her without consultation.”
  2. “Some jokes overstep the line and offend the audience.”
  3. “Diplomats warned that the move could overstep international law.”

  • 固定搭配: “overstep one’s authority” (越权), “overstep the mark/line” (越界), “overstep boundaries” (逾越界限)

over(越过)+ step(一步)→ 多迈出去那一步 → 越界。

“The intern apologized after realizing she had overstepped by emailing the CEO directly.”
