Overstep
“Overstep” 强调”跨过了不该跨的线”,如 overstep one’s authority(越权)、overstep the bounds of decency(有失体面)。
- “The manager overstepped his authority by firing her without consultation.”
- “Some jokes overstep the line and offend the audience.”
- “Diplomats warned that the move could overstep international law.”
- 固定搭配: “overstep one’s authority” (越权), “overstep the mark/line” (越界), “overstep boundaries” (逾越界限)
over(越过)+ step(一步)→ 多迈出去那一步 → 越界。
“The intern apologized after realizing she had overstepped by emailing the CEO directly.”
