Miles
英美日常与交通标识中常用英里计量路程;非正式用法如 “miles better” 表示好得多,属于强化语气的比喻。
- “The nearest gas station is five miles away.” (最近的加油站在五英里外。)
- “They walked for miles along the coastal path.” (他们沿着海岸小径走了好几英里。)
- “This new laptop is miles faster than my old one.” (这台新笔记本比我那台旧的速度快太多了。)
“mile” 源自拉丁语 mille passus(一千步),经古英语 mīl 进入现代英语。
“miles” 为 mile + 复数 -s;无派生前缀。
美国公路文化里英里主导;英国官方多用公制,但口语仍混用英里谈距离与跑步配速。
