Marrow
Marrow
- 隐喻: 指某事物的最核心、最本质的部分(如 the marrow of the argument)。
- “The patient needs a bone marrow transplant to treat the leukemia.”
- “We harvested a giant marrow from the garden for Sunday dinner.”
- “His speech went straight to the marrow of the issue.”
短语 “to the marrow” 意为“彻骨地、深入地”(如 frozen to the marrow 冻到骨子里)。
The old gardener grew a marrow that was as big as a sleeping dog. He entered it into the village competition. While others talked about the size, he cut it open to show the rich, soft inside. “The outside is for show,” he said, “but the marrow is for the soul.” He won the gold medal for having the best heart and the best marrow.
