Makeshift

  1. “They used a large piece of plastic as a makeshift roof for their tent.”
  2. “In the absence of a proper desk, she used an old cardboard box as a makeshift workspace.”
  3. “The survivors built a makeshift bridge to cross the flooded stream.”
  • make: 制作。

Make(制作)+ Shift(转换/替代)。

The children wanted to play king and queen, but they didn’t have any crowns. One girl had an idea. She took some golden autumn leaves and tied them together with grass. “Look!” she cried, “A makeshift crown!” It wasn’t made of gold, but for that afternoon, it was perfect.
