Lotto

  1. “She plays the lotto every week, hoping to hit the jackpot.”
  2. “The national lotto raised millions for education and healthcare.”
  3. “He won a small prize in the office lotto—enough for a nice dinner.”

Lotto 与 lot(命运、抽签)同源。

“Every Friday, Mr. Chen bought a lotto ticket at the corner store. He never won big, but he enjoyed the ritual—the moment of hope before the numbers were drawn. ‘It’s cheap entertainment,’ he’d say. ‘And who knows? Maybe one day my lotto will change my lot in life.’”
