Longhand

  1. “She wrote the entire letter in longhand because her computer had crashed.”
  2. “I had to write the essay out twice longhand—they wouldn’t let me print it out. It took forever!”
  3. “The court reporter took notes in shorthand, but the judge preferred to read longhand.”

Long(长的)+ hand(手)。“Long” 指用完整、冗长的字母书写,与 shorthand(用简短符号速记)形成对比。

  • 词根: long(长的)+ hand(手)

  • 反义词: shorthand(速记)

Long(长)+ hand(手)= 用手写出完整的、较长的字母形式。与 shorthand(短手,即速记)对比记忆。

“The author refused to use a typewriter. Every draft of his novel was written in longhand, page after page in a leather-bound notebook. He said the flow of ink from his pen helped him think. His publisher had to hire someone just to type his manuscripts.”
