Leatherneck

  1. “My grandfather was a proud leatherneck who served in the Pacific.”
  2. “The leathernecks moved quickly to secure the beachhead.”
  3. “He has that tough, determined look of a true leatherneck.”

Leather (皮革) + Neck (脖子)。

“In the heat of the training camp, the drill sergeant shouted at the recruits, ‘You think you’re ready to be leathernecks? You haven’t seen anything yet!’ He wanted to make sure they had the inner toughness that the name leatherneck represented.”
