Laying

“Laying” 来自及物动词 lay,表示“把某物放下、铺放”,如 laying bricks;也可指鸟“下蛋” laying eggs,或 laying plans(制定计划)。注意与 lie(躺)区分。

  1. “Workers are laying new pipes under the street.” (工人们正在街道下铺设新管道。)
  2. “The hen has been laying eggs every morning.” (这只母鸡每天早上都在下蛋。)
  3. “They spent the week laying plans for the launch.” (他们花了一周制定发布计划。)

“Laying” 来自古英语 “lecgan”(放置),与 lie(躺)和 lay(放置)在历史中易混淆,现代英语需区分及物 lay 与不及物 lie。

“-ing” 为现在分词后缀;lay 的过去式是 laid,过去分词也是 laid。

常见固定搭配 laying the groundwork(打基础)、laying blame(归咎)在新闻和商务英语中频繁出现。
