Involuntary

  1. “Breathing is an involuntary action controlled by the nervous system.”
  2. “The company announced a series of involuntary redundancies.”
  3. “An involuntary cry of pain escaped from his lips.”

这与故意杀人(voluntary/premeditated)有着本质区别。

in- (不) + voluntary (自愿的)。

“When the magician pulled the rabbit out of the hat, Sarah let out an involuntary gasp of wonder. She didn’t mean to make a sound, but her body reacted before her brain could stop it. It was the best compliment the magician could have received.”
