Infamous

“Infamous”

  1. “The pirate was infamous for his cruelty to captives.”
  2. “December 7th, 1941, is a date that will live in infamy.” (1941
  3. “He became infamous after the scandal was exposed.”

罗斯福总统在珍珠港事件后的演讲中使用了 “a date which will live in infamy”,使这个词在政治修辞中极具分量。

in (不好的) + famous (出名的)。

“The old house on the hill was infamous throughout the town. People said a ghost lived there, but the truth was more mundane: it had once been the hideout of an infamous bank robber. Decades later, children still ran past it, fearing the dark history associated with the name.”
