Argued

既可指口头争执(argued with his boss),也可指理性陈述观点(argued that climate policy needs reform)。学术写作里 argued 常引述他人论点。

  1. “They argued about money for hours.” (他们为钱吵了好几个小时。)
  2. “The lawyer argued that the evidence was incomplete.” (律师主张证据不完整。)
  3. “Scholars have argued this point since the 1990s.” (学者们从九十年代起就争论这一点。)

拉丁语 arguere(阐明、证明),经法语 arguer 进入英语,原义偏“说理”而非单纯吵架。

argu- + -ed;名词 argument,形容词 argumentative(好争辩的)。

英美课堂鼓励 argue a position(论证立场);日常 argued 语气偏负面时指“吵”。论文常用 Smith argued that… 引用观点。

  • 固定搭配: “argued with” (与…争论), “argued for/against” (支持/反对), “heatedly argued” (激烈争辩)
  • 名词: argument

argument 是“论据”,argued 是“已经拿出论据说过了”,吵架也是用论据压对方。

“Two friends argued over the best route, then laughed and took the longer scenic road together.” (两个朋友争论哪条路最好,随后笑着一起选了绕一点风景好的路。)
