既可指口头争执(argued with his boss),也可指理性陈述观点(argued that climate policy needs reform)。学术写作里 argued 常引述他人论点。
- “They argued about money for hours.” (他们为钱吵了好几个小时。)
- “The lawyer argued that the evidence was incomplete.” (律师主张证据不完整。)
- “Scholars have argued this point since the 1990s.” (学者们从九十年代起就争论这一点。)
拉丁语 arguere(阐明、证明),经法语 arguer 进入英语,原义偏“说理”而非单纯吵架。
argu- + -ed;名词 argument,形容词 argumentative(好争辩的)。
英美课堂鼓励 argue a position(论证立场);日常 argued 语气偏负面时指“吵”。论文常用 Smith argued that… 引用观点。
